Return to player and volatility describe different properties of a slot game. They can help explain its rules, but neither predicts your next spin or guarantees a return from your own session.

What RTP means

Theoretical return to player is the game’s designed long-run proportion of total stakes returned as prizes. As a hypothetical illustration, a 96% RTP corresponds to a 4% long-run house edge on stakes under the game’s rules. It does not mean a £100 deposit returns £96. Total stakes include money played again after winning, and individual results can vary widely.

What volatility means

Volatility describes variation in outcomes. A game with infrequent large prizes can have a different pattern from one built around smaller, more frequent prizes, even when their theoretical RTP is similar. A volatility label is not a guarantee of win frequency or a method for choosing a winning session.

Read the actual game rules

Use the help or paytable in the exact game version offered by the operator. Check stake settings, prize rules, bonus features and the displayed RTP. A welcome offer may also limit which games or stakes qualify. We do not assign invented RTP values to slots or promise that a game is due a win.

Actual RTP is a measured result

Actual RTP is calculated from recorded prizes divided by stakes over a particular sample. The sample size and volatility affect how far it can differ from the theoretical value. A short personal session is not a reliable test of a game’s long-run return.
